Biography

Apurv Chauhan joined King’s College London in 2023 as a Senior Lecturer in Social & Cultural Psychology. Prior to this, he was a Principal Lecturer in Social Psychology at the University of Brighton and a Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Guelph, Canada. Apurv completed his PhD in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), an MPhil in Social Psychology at the University of Cambridge, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Delhi. He leads the Sociocultural Lab at King's and is committed to understanding issues of poverty, homelessness, and related social inequalities. His research explores the role of language in constructing disadvantage, stigmatization, and the othering of groups. He is also focused on social epistemologies of health among poor communities in India and has recently examined ethnocentric biases in qualitative research methodologies using natural language processing and big data. Apurv welcomes doctoral students interested in poverty, homelessness, social representations, and qualitative approaches to health research, especially in the context of Indigenous epistemologies and psychologies.
