Arash Sahraei is an adjunct professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ottawa. He received his PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2017, with a doctoral research focused on lateral torsional buckling analysis of beam-columns in plane frames. His research included the development of several finite element formulations to enhance the analysis of steel beams and plane frames. Following his PhD, he was awarded a CRD Post-Doctoral Fellowship for a collaborative project between the University of Ottawa and S-Frame Software Inc., where he contributed to the development of new features in the S-Frame S-Steel software. With over four years of experience working with structural consulting firms in Ottawa, he joined Adjeleian Allen Rubeli (AAR) in 2018, focusing on the modeling, analysis, and design of high-rise structures. In December 2019, he began working with WSP Canada Inc., where he played a key role as a structural engineer in the Rehabilitation of Parliament Hill project, one of Canada’s largest infrastructure projects. His research interests include Computational Structural Mechanics, Finite Element Modeling, Buckling of Steel Members, Structural Stability, Structural Dynamics, and Earthquake Engineering.
