Dr. Arathi Sriprakash

Biography

Arathi Sriprakash is a professor at the University of Oxford in the Department of Education, specializing in the sociology of education. Her current research focuses on reparative justice within educational systems and practices. Sriprakash seeks to address collective recognition of past and present injustices in the field of education, posing critical questions about what reparative education should look like. Over the years, she has illuminated the structural injustices embedded within schooling systems, particularly examining the politics of educational inequality across Indian, Australian, and UK contexts with a global perspective on childhood and family. Her scholarship deeply investigates issues related to racism and colonialism in education, exploring how racial capitalism perpetuates educational injustices. Key collaborative publications include "Learning Whiteness: Education Settler Colonial State" (Pluto, 2022) and "Black Lives Matter: Global Struggles Racial Justice Education" (Chicago, 2023). Previously, she held academic positions at the University of Bristol, University of Cambridge, and University of Sydney. Sriprakash is also involved with significant funded research projects aimed at exploring reparative futures in education and educating against racial injustices, working with various international organizations and research collectives.
