Dr. Ardi Imseis

Biography

Ardi Imseis is an Associate Professor and Co-Academic Director of the International Law Program at Queen’s Faculty of Law, where he has served since 2018. With extensive experience as a UN official in the Middle East, Imseis has worked with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). His scholarly interests encompass public international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law, and international refugee law. He has contributed to various prestigious journals including the American Journal of International Law and the Harvard International Law Journal. Notably, Imseis served from 2019 to 2021 as a member of the UN Human Rights Council’s Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen, focusing on human rights violations in the context of that conflict. As an advocate for peace and security, he has been invited to address numerous significant forums, including the UN Security Council. His publications and activities reflect a commitment to international legal structures and human rights advocacy, focusing on the complexities of legal frameworks surrounding conflicts and statehood.
