Biography

Aresha Martinez-Cardoso is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Chicago. As an interdisciplinary population health researcher, she investigates the intersections of race, policy, and social determinants of health, employing epidemiological methods alongside social science theory. Her primary research focuses on the health and well-being of Latinx immigrant populations in the United States. Dr. Martinez-Cardoso has published extensively in leading academic journals such as Social Science & Medicine and Current Diabetes Reports. Her work has garnered funding from prominent organizations including the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, the National Institute on Aging, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. In her teaching, research, and service, she is dedicated to advancing health equity and ensuring that interventions and policies center the voices of marginalized communities. She holds a Ph.D. in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan and an M.S. in Community Health Sciences from UCLA, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Latin American Studies. Before her current role, she was a Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Chicago.
