Biography

Ariana Traill is a Professor and Department Head at the Department of Classics at Illinois University. She earned her B.A. in Classical Philology from the University of Toronto in 1991 and her Ph.D. in Classical Philology from Harvard in 1997. Her research interests primarily focus on Greek and Roman comedy, women's roles in antiquity, and the reception of ancient comedy. Traill is the author of 'Women Comic Plot Menander' (Cambridge, 2008) and serves as co-editor of the 'Companion to Terence' (Wiley-Blackwell, 2013). She is currently working on book projects that include a volume on Plautus' 'Cistellaria' and a translation of Menander's 'Periceiromene'. In the classroom, Traill emphasizes Greek and Latin language literature, particularly in ancient drama, and teaches writing skills through advanced composition courses. She is actively involved with graduate students in the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program and runs an annual workshop for children aged 8-11. Traill has received multiple awards, including the Lynn M. Martin Professorial Scholar and the Distinguished Leadership Award (2016).
