Biography

Arie van Deursen is a professor of Software Engineering in the Department of Software Technology at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science at Delft University of Technology. He served as the head of the department from 2016 to 2023 and currently chairs the Software Engineering Research Group (SERG). Van Deursen is also the scientific co-director of AI4SE, a five-year collaboration between JetBrains and TU Delft focused on exploring novel uses of artificial intelligence in software engineering. His lab hosts 10 PhD students and numerous MSc and BSc students, along with TU Delft faculty and JetBrains specialists. Additionally, he is a co-founder of Software Improvement Group (2000) and PerfectXL (2010). His research interests include software engineering, software testing, trustworthy AI, language models in coding, software architecture, human aspects of software engineering, and the digitalization of the financial and public sector.
