Biography

Arief Lalmohamed obtained a Master of Science in Pharmacy in 2010 (cum laude) from Utrecht University and completed his PhD in 2014 (cum laude) in Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology at Utrecht University, focusing on complications of hip and knee replacement surgery from a pharmacoepidemiologic approach. He has collaborated with leading organizations including the Medicines Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency in the UK and Aarhus University in Denmark. Lalmohamed trained as a clinical pharmacologist at the University Medical Center Utrecht and as an epidemiologist at both the University Medical Center Utrecht and McGill University in Canada. In 2017, he completed his training as a clinical pharmacist in hospital pharmacy at the University Medical Center Utrecht. He currently serves as an associate professor in pharmacoepidemiology, supervising six PhD students and is a member of the Medical Ethical Research Committee (METC), having reviewed over 100 clinical study protocols. Lalmohamed has a keen interest in education, holding a teaching position at the School of Pharmacy at Utrecht University since 2017, where he chairs the MSc Oncology course and has co-developed an interprofessional learning platform. He has authored over 50 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and his research focuses on clinical pharmacoepidemiology, particularly on the real-world safety and efficacy of licensed drugs and drug repurposing in fields such as infection immunology and cancer.
