Biography

Ariel Birnbaum is an Associate Professor of Medicine and a Clinician Educator at Brown University. He serves as the Director of the Head Neck Cancer Program at the Lifespan Cancer Institute. His specialties include oncology, particularly in head and neck cancer and lung cancer. He completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio, Toledo, in 1994, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. Dr. Birnbaum has a strong track record in educational excellence, having received various awards including the Diagnostician Award from the Internal Medicine Program in 1997, the Educator of the Year Award during his Hematology-Oncology Fellowship in 2008, and the Department of Medicine Award for Outstanding Teaching in 2011. Moreover, he was honored with the Dean’s Excellence Teaching Award in 2012 and a Certificate of Recognition for Teaching in Hematology in 2013. In 2019, he was voted one of the Top Doctors in Oncology by Rhode Island Monthly. He is affiliated with Lifespan - Rhode Island Hospital and Miriam Hospital and is actively involved in teaching at Brown University.
