Dr. Aris Georgakakos

Biography

Aris P. Georgakakos is a Professor and Director of the Georgia Water Resources Institute at the Georgia Institute of Technology. With a focus on integrated water, energy, and environmental planning, his work involves climate change impact assessments and adaptation planning. He has expertise in flood and drought management, hydro-thermal coordination, and operational management, as well as crop modeling and agro-economic planning. Georgakakos utilizes remote sensing technology to analyze hydrologic variables and develop decision support systems for effective river basin management. His research spans multiple countries including the United States, Brazil, Jordan, Greece, and China, and he collaborates with various U.S. foreign organizations such as the U.S. Geological Survey and National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration. As an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hydrology, he plays a pivotal role in advising U.S. government on critical climate adaptation and water resource policy issues.
