Biography

Aris Papageorghiou is a Professor of Fetal Medicine and Clinical Research Director at the Oxford Maternal Perinatal Health Institute. He leads several research projects focused on maternal, fetal, and perinatal health using diverse methods, including basic science, clinical epidemiology, trials, and implementation science. His major research interests include the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in pregnancy imaging and screening. Over the years, he has worked alongside biomedical engineers to tackle various issues in this field. He co-founded Intelligent Ultrasound, an Oxford University spin-out. Aris has published 350 original articles, garnering 18,000 citations, and has an h-index of 73. He studied medicine at the University of Sheffield and served as a Research Fellow at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at King’s College, where he obtained his MD focusing on large-scale population screening for predicting pre-eclampsia. His clinical training includes obstetrics and gynecology, with a subspecialization in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at St George's, University of London. Aris is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BJOG and serves as the National Chair of the Expert Working Group for Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK. He has received several honors, including the ISUOG fellowship in 2019 and an Honorary Membership from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
