Biography

Arjan Houtepen is a full professor in the Chemical Engineering department at Delft University of Technology. His research group, NCFun, studies the fundamental properties of semiconductor nanomaterials and develops functional nanomaterials for various applications. The group combines synthesis, advanced spectroscopy, and electrochemistry to innovate in nanotechnology. In October 2024, he will serve as the scientific director of e-Refinery, an institute focused on the sustainable production of chemicals and fuels through electrochemical conversion technology. Arjan received his PhD from Utrecht University in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Vanmaekelbergh and Prof. John Kelly. He joined Delft University of Technology as a tenure track assistant professor and was promoted to full professor of Colloidal Nanomaterials in 2020. Arjan has also worked as a visiting scientist at LMU Munich and was a guest professor at Ghent University. He is currently a board member of the Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).
