Biography

Arjun (Raj) Manrai is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School. He leads a research lab that broadly applies machine learning and statistical modeling to improve medical decision-making. Raj is also the founding Deputy Editor of NEJM AI, a new journal focused on artificial intelligence published by the New England Journal of Medicine. His research focuses on the role of artificial intelligence in medical diagnosis, the clinical use of genomic data and laboratory biomarkers, and decision making for complex populations. Raj's work has been published in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and JAMA, and presented at the National Academy of Sciences. He has also been featured in notable outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and NPR. Raj is committed to mentoring students at Harvard College and has served as a Resident Tutor for over a decade. His students have earned prestigious awards, such as the Rhodes and Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowships. Raj earned his AB in Physics from Harvard College and his PhD in Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology. He resides in the Boston area and enjoys dance competitions with his two young daughters.
