Arjun Muralidharan completed his PhD in Neuropharmacology under Professor Maree T. Smith at the University of Queensland in 2013. He subsequently undertook a postdoctoral tenure at the Centre for Integrated Preclinical Drug Development, funded by a large ARC Linkage Grant in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH. In 2015, he was awarded the Ronald Melzack Fellowship in Chronic Pain and began a postdoctoral tenure at the Pain Genetics laboratory of Professor Jeffrey S. Mogil at McGill University in Canada. Currently, he serves as Group Leader in the Neurobiology of Chronic Pain Research lab at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences. His research has secured over $2 million in funding, focusing on the molecular dissection of the interplay between chronic pain and aging, as well as the development of stem-cell-based analgesic therapies for chronic pain treatment. Dr. Muralidharan employs various experimental approaches from molecular and cellular biology to pharmacology, genetics, and behavior to understand the pathobiological mechanisms behind effective pain perception and identify novel targets for treatment. His research aligns with the Faculty of Science's research strengths in brain-behavior cognition, and health and well-being throughout the lifespan.
