Biography

Arjun Yodh is the James M. Skinner Professor of Science and Chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Cornell University in 1981 with a BSc in Applied and Engineering Physics and obtained his PhD from Harvard University in 1986. His postdoctoral work was conducted at AT&T Bell Laboratories. Yodh has been a faculty member at Penn since 1988, where he has significantly contributed to education and outreach initiatives, mentoring over 100 PhD students and postdoctoral associates. He has directed the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM) and has been instrumental in developing STEM education programs aimed at various educational levels and the general public. His research interests include condensed matter physics, biophysics, medical physics, and optical sciences, spanning experiments in soft materials, optical microscopy, photodynamic therapy, and functional imaging of living tissues. Yodh has also held various positions within the University, including the Director of LRSM and the William Smith Term Chair, and has affiliations with multiple interdisciplinary institutes.
