Biography

Armando Alonzo is an Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University. A native of the Lower Valley of Texas, he received his Ph.D. in History from Indiana University in 1991. Prior to his current position, Alonzo taught at Southwest Texas State University and the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research interests focus on Mexican American history, particularly on Tejanos and the historical context of the Texas-Mexico borderlands. He is the author of 'Tejano Legacy: Rancheros and Settlers in South Texas, 1734-1900,' which was published by the University of New Mexico Press in 1998. Alonzo has received funding from the National Research Council and is currently studying the history of Texas and Northern Mexico during the period of 1700-1865. His academic specialty lies in the Mexican American experience in Texas and the Spanish Borderlands, contributing to a deeper understanding of the cultural and historical dynamics of this region.
