Biography

Arne Kjell Vikhagen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg, currently teaching art theory to first-year fine art students. He has been involved in teaching various subjects including coding for artists, the use of microcontrollers for artistic purposes, and media art. Vikhagen has been a faculty member at HDK-Valand since 2000 and has extensive experience in artistic research related to technology and ludic art. In 2017, he defended his PhD thesis titled 'Art Put Play: Practice-based Research Project in Game Art', which explores the relationship between art and play, particularly in the context of Game Art. The thesis includes production details of nine works of art and discusses how these works engage with rule systems and aesthetics of computer games. Vikhagen’s artistic practice primarily falls within the field of media art, especially ludic art, and he has exhibited in various renowned exhibitions across Sweden. He holds a Cand.Mag. degree in philosophical aesthetics from NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, and a BA degree in photography from the University of Gothenburg.
