Biography

Arne Frederik Wackenhut is a Senior Lecturer in Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg. He successfully defended his doctoral thesis in June 2017, focusing on the role of Cairo-based political opposition in the diffusion of protest during the Egyptian Uprising in 2011. His research interests include diaspora studies, transnationalism, social movement theory, contentious politics, and research ethics. He is currently engaged in a VR-funded research project examining how second-generation diasporans relate to their parents' countries of origin. Wackenhut emphasizes student-centered learning in his teaching philosophy, aiming to foster deep learning through engaging teaching and learning activities. From 2018 to 2021, he was the program director for the Bachelor of Arts program in Global Studies. Since 2021, he has served as the Director of Studies within the School of Global Studies.
