Biography

Arno W. Hoes studied Medicine at Radboud University Nijmegen and obtained his PhD degree from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a thesis focused on the sudden cardiac death as a side effect of diuretics in hypertension. He trained in Clinical Epidemiology at Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. In 1998, he was appointed professor of Clinical Epidemiology in General Practice at Utrecht University / University Medical Center (UMC) Utrecht. Between 2010 and 2019, he served as Chair and Medical Manager at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care at UMC Utrecht. In June 2019, he was appointed vice-chair of the executive board of University Medical Center Utrecht and dean of the medical faculty of Utrecht University / UMC Utrecht. His main research topics include the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and early diagnosis.
