Dr. Arshiya Baig

Biography

Arshiya Baig, MD, MPH, FACP is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Chicago. She is a general internist dedicated to providing care to adult patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. As an accomplished health services researcher, Dr. Baig's primary research interest lies in utilizing partnered research approaches and implementation science to enhance diabetes care outcomes, particularly focusing on Latino populations. Her work has garnered her recognition as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar, where she conducted research on community-based methods related to intimate partner violence in Colombia, South America. Dr. Baig has received numerous awards for her community service research, including the “Breaking Barriers in Health and Wellness” Award from the Chicago Foundation for Women. She also serves as the President of the Midwest Society of General Internal Medicine and has held roles such as an editorial board member for the Journal of General Internal Medicine and an invited grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health. A gifted medical educator, she was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of Distinguished Medical Educators and received the Clinical Teacher of the Year award from the Department of Medicine. Furthermore, Dr. Baig co-directs the Scholarship Discovery Program at the Pritzker School of Medicine, which supports medical students in completing mentored research projects.
