Biography

Arthur Robert Grossman is a Visiting Professor (by courtesy) and Professor in the Department of Biology at Stanford University, also serving as a Staff Scientist at the Carnegie Institution for Science's Department of Plant Biology since 1982. He has made significant contributions in plant biology, microbiology, marine biology, ecology, and genomics, including leading the Chlamydomonas genome project. Throughout his career, he has mentored over fifteen PhD students and forty post-doctoral fellows, many of whom have become successful independent scientists. Over the years, he has received numerous accolades, including the Darbaker Prize from the Botanical Society of America and the Gilbert Morgan Smith Medal from the National Academy of Sciences for his outstanding publications on microalgae. In addition to his research, he has held prominent roles in scientific organizations, including vice chair and chair of the Gordon Research Conference on Photosynthesis. Grossman has also served as Co-Editor Chief of the Journal of Phycology and has been involved in editorial boards of several prestigious journals and scientific panels for various granting agencies.
