Dr. Arthur Haas

Biography

Arthur Haas is an internationally renowned pedagogue and performer specializing in harpsichord and organ music, particularly from the Baroque and contemporary repertoire. He achieved notable recognition by receiving the top prize at the 1975 Paris International Harpsichord Competition. Throughout his career, Haas has performed at major early music festivals in France and has appeared as a soloist across both Europe and the United States. Currently, he is a member of several ensembles, including the Aulos Ensemble, Empire Viols, and Aula Harmoniæ. In addition to his performance activities, Haas is an esteemed faculty member at the Yale School of Music, where he teaches graduate-level harpsichord students and offers classes on the rhetoric of early music performance. He also coaches chamber music groups and performs in the Faculty Artist Series at Sprague Memorial Hall. His academic contributions extend to his roles at Stony Brook University and Mannes School of Music, as well as to the Amherst Early Music Festival where he teaches and performs. Haas's interpretations of French keyboard music have been praised by 'Le Monde,' and he has recorded duos and solo CDs featuring works by composers such as Gaspard Le Roux and Jean-Henri d’Anglebert. He holds a master's degree in historical musicology from the University of California at Los Angeles and has studied with esteemed musicians at premier institutions including the Juilliard School.
