Arthur Motta is a professor of nuclear engineering at the Pennsylvania State University, with additional affiliations in the Materials Science and Engineering Department. He received his Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1983, and his Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1988. He joined the Penn State faculty in 1992 after gaining experience as a research associate at the CEA Centre for Nuclear Studies in Grenoble, France, and working as a postdoctoral fellow at AECL Chalk River Laboratories in Canada. His research interests include the mechanisms of materials degradation in nuclear reactor environments, radiation damage, microstructural evolution, and corrosion/hydriding behavior. He is particularly focused on the development of new materials and predictions of material behavior under extreme conditions found in nuclear applications. Dr. Motta has authored numerous publications and has engaged actively in educational leadership within nuclear engineering, overseeing programs that prepare students for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in this field.
