Biography

Arturo Orellana is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at York University. His research focuses on the total synthesis of natural products and the development of synthetic methods that provide access to biologically active compounds. His studies involve the synthesis of complex natural products displaying significant biological activity, which can serve as leads for therapeutic agents. Orellana’s research also explores the development of new synthetic methods for carbocyclic and heterocyclic compounds relevant to medicinal chemistry and natural products synthesis. His work facilitates further biological evaluation of important natural products that are typically found in low abundance. By creating synthetic intermediates that are structurally related to natural products, he evaluates their biological activities, contributing to the fields of organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
