Arul Ramasamy is a fellowship-trained Consultant Foot and Ankle Surgeon with the Defence Medical Services. He graduated in Medicine from Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge in 2000, after which he joined the Army as a deployed medical officer, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. He completed Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Birmingham and further specialized in foot and ankle fellowships at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford and the Fortius Clinic in London. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious ABC Travelling Fellowship by the British Orthopaedic Association. Arul joined Imperial College London to pursue his PhD in Biomechanics in 2009, successfully defending his thesis related to lower limb blast injuries from vehicle explosions in 2012. He has published extensively, with over 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and has received £6 million in grant funding for research related to combat injury management. Arul continues to supervise multiple PhD students focusing on fracture healing and rehabilitation. In 2023, he was appointed as Defence Professor of Trauma Orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and serves as the Visiting Professor and Clinical Lead at the Centre for Injury Studies at Imperial College London.
