Dr. Arvind Mandair

Biography

Arvind Mandair is a Professor at the University of Michigan specializing in Sikh Studies and Asian Languages and Cultures. He holds a Philosophy Ph.D. from the University of Warwick and has published extensively on critical issues such as Continental Philosophy, Critical Race and Ethnic Studies, Critical Theory, and Intellectual History. His notable works include 'Religion Specter West: Sikhism, India Postcoloniality Politics Translation' and 'Secularism Religion-Making'. His teaching and research interests lie at the intersection of Sikh Studies, Violence Studies, Secularism, and Global Philosophies of Religion. Mandair is currently working on edited volumes and monographs that challenge conventional comparative frameworks in philosophy, particularly focusing on cross-cultural encounters between Sikh and Western philosophical concepts. His research also explores the implications of diaspora theories amidst interactions of majoritarian and minoritarian cultures.
