Dr. Arvind Saraswat

Biography

Arvind Saraswat is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Environmental Science at Simon Fraser University. He serves as the Project Assessment Director at the Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) for the Province of British Columbia, responsible for overseeing major projects that undergo environmental assessments. Prior to this role, he worked as a Senior Project Engineer focusing on Air Quality Bylaw Regulation Development at the Metro Vancouver Regional District. Arvind has also held the position of Head of the Air Quality Section (Assessments) at the British Columbia Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy, where he was responsible for reviewing air discharge applications under the Environmental Management Act (EMA) and the Environmental Assessment Act (EAA). In this capacity, he led regional permitting compliance activities in sectors such as oil and gas, chemicals, forestry, and municipalities. He holds a PhD in Resource Management and Environmental Studies from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. His research interests focus on modeling small-area variations in urban air quality and developing novel methods for estimating population exposure in impact assessments concerning major pollution sources.
