Arwen Pearson is a biophysicist with a strong background in X-ray crystallography, single crystal spectroscopy, and structural enzymology. She has a keen interest in the development of new methods to probe biological molecular mechanisms. Arwen completed her BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry at the University of Bath in 1997 and went on to earn her PhD in structural biology from the University of St Andrews in 2001, working under the guidance of Garry Taylor. Following her doctoral studies, she conducted postdoctoral research in the structural enzymology lab of Carrie Wilmot at the University of Minnesota, focusing on the biogenesis of protein-derived cofactors, specifically tryptophan tryptophylquinone. In 2006, Arwen returned to the UK to work at the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology at the University of Leeds, where she became an independent research fellow and took on a lectureship in 2011. In 2014, she joined the University of Hamburg as a Professor of Experimental Biophysics, contributing to the Hamburg Centre for Ultrafast Imaging.
