Biography

Arwin van Buuren is a Full Professor of Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He serves as the Director of the Department of Public Administration and Sociology, and is also the founder and Academic Director of the Erasmus Governance Design Studio. His work involves engaging in a variety of experimental design-oriented research projects and developing proven design methodologies in public administration. As the Academic Director of GovLab010, he collaborates with the City of Rotterdam to help address complex governance challenges in an engaged and solution-oriented manner. He leads strategic projects at EUR, including the Evaluating Societal Impact project, which aims to enhance and foster impact strategies at various levels within the university, and the Impact Core program, which focuses on making education more impact-driven. His research interests include co-designing policy governance, invitational governance, self-organization, collaborative governance, co-creation, policy innovation, and institutional change. In addition to his academic work, Arwin provides advisory services to local, regional, and national governments and is often invited to lecture to professional audiences.
