Arya Farahi joined the University of Texas at Austin in 2021 as an Assistant Professor. Previously, he was a Data Science Fellow at the Michigan Institute for Data Science at the University of Michigan. His research contributes to the fields of astroinformatics and urban informatics, focusing on understanding and mitigating the unexpected and not-well-understood consequences of AI models, algorithmic bias, and uncertainty quantification in real-world settings. He is a finalist for the Schmidt Science Fellow position and has received a student paper award at KDD’18, as well as the Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery Engineering fellowship. He has been awarded over $400k in grant funding and is an active member of international project collaborations, including the Dark Energy Survey, the COsmostatistics Initiative, and the XMM-XXL Consortium.
