Dr. Åsa Danielsson

Biography

Åsa Danielsson is a Senior Associate Professor at Linköping University, specializing in Water Environmental Studies. Her research primarily focuses on the investigation of nutrients and heavy metals in aquatic environments, particularly in relation to eutrophication in the Baltic Sea. Danielsson is engaged in assessing the effectiveness of measures implemented to reduce nutrient loads in the Baltic Sea and studying the long-term impacts of these measures. She analyzes connections between spatial and temporal changes in aquatic ecosystems and the substances that interact within them. Her research highlights the effects of oxygen-free bottoms and sediments as internal sources of nutrients, in addition to exploring the interplay between silicon, phosphorus, and nitrogen under varying oxygen conditions. Danielsson employs long time series data within a large-scale perspective to gain insights into how nutrients are expected to be affected by climate change.
