Biography

Asaf Cidon is an associate professor at Columbia University, holding joint appointments in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is a member of Columbia's Data Science Institute. His research primarily focuses on software systems security, an area where he has made significant contributions through his previous role as Senior Vice President of Email Protection at Barracuda Networks, where he oversaw the development of a $200 million email security and archiving business. Cidon is the co-founder and CEO of the startup Sookasa, which was acquired by Barracuda after his completion of a PhD in distributed storage systems at Stanford University under the guidance of Mendel Rosenblum and Sachin Katti. His research work has been influential, with commercial implementations adopted by industry leaders such as Facebook, Tibco, Hortonworks, and Rubrik. Additionally, his work has received recognition, winning several paper awards including those from OSDI, UseSec, CIDR ATC, and NSF CAREER ARO's young investigator awards. He also has a BS in Computer Software Engineering from Technion and maintains an active engagement in teaching and mentoring students in the fields of computer science and engineering.
