Biography

Aseel Berglund is a Senior Associate Professor at Linköping University specializing in gamification, design games, and the development of interactive products and services for education and healthcare. His research focuses on the principles and mechanics of games applied in various contexts to motivate and engage users and reinforce positive behavior change. Aseel has studied the application of gamification in learning mathematics, contributing to the development of the mobile app Tangle Math in collaboration with Christer Fuglesang, aimed at enhancing student engagement. He is also involved in projects that utilize gamification to stimulate physical activity, such as Liopep—a gamified program designed to create health-promoting workplaces. In the area of health, Aseel has worked on the Heart Exergame to increase physical activity quality for elderly patients with chronic heart disease. His research includes empirical studies of applied games, player experiences, persuasive motivational design, and innovation in interaction technology. Aseel is passionate about teaching and aims to inspire students in the fields of Software Entrepreneurship, Software Development, and Interaction Design. He has received several awards for his contributions to teaching, including the Entrepreneurial Teacher of the Year award in 2021.
