Described as 'Powerful, big-boned' (American Record Guide) and 'graceful, agile, spontaneous' (Fanfare), pianist Asher Armstrong performs across Europe and North America, recording solo albums for the classical label Blue Griffin, surveying works by Brahms, Busoni transcriptions, and late Romantic pieces. Notably recent engagements include solo recitals at the Penderecki Academy in Kraków, the Royal College of Music in London, the Iceland University of the Arts, and the University of Toronto’s New Music Festival, as well as performing as a concerto soloist with the Washington-Idaho Symphony Orchestra. Armstrong has a strong interest in late Romantic piano repertoire and has given world premiere performances of works by Varvara Gaigerova while advocating for neglected virtuosic music, including large compositions by Kaprálová, Leginska, and Fromm-Michaels. He actively collaborates with contemporary composers and teaches various levels of piano at the University of Toronto, having previously served as an Assistant Professor of Piano at the University of Arkansas and taught at the Interlochen School of the Arts. His students have achieved significant success, and he participates in community arts projects and serves as a sought-after adjudicator and clinician.
