Biography

Ashira Pelman Ostrow is the Peter S. Kalikow Distinguished Professor of Real Estate Law at Hofstra University and a Visiting Professor at Columbia Law School. She specializes in teaching Property, Land Use Law, Real Estate Transactions, and State Local Government Law. Her research focuses on land use and local governance, particularly the interaction between federal law and local land use policies. Professor Ostrow has published numerous articles across a wide variety of journals, including the Yale Law Journal and Harvard Journal of Legislation. She received several awards and honors for her scholarship, including participation in the Harvard/Stanford/Yale Junior Faculty Forum and the Hofstra University's Lawrence Stessin Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Publication. Before joining Hofstra in January 2007, Professor Ostrow practiced as a real estate attorney in Davis Polk's corporate department, representing real estate investment funds and various stakeholders in complex real estate transactions. She earned her JD from Columbia Law School in 2003, where she was a James Kent Scholar and Editor of the Columbia Law Review. In 1999, she graduated summa cum laude with a BA in political science from the University of Pennsylvania.
