Dr. Ashish Jha

Biography

Ashish K. Jha, M.D., M.P.H., is a practicing physician recognized globally as an expert in pandemic preparedness and health policy research and practice. He has led groundbreaking research on the Ebola frontlines and COVID-19 response, conducting national and international analyses of key issues and advising state and federal policymakers. Jha joins the Brown School of Public Health after serving as the Director of the Harvard Global Health Institute and teaching at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School. He has published over one hundred original research publications in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine and BMJ, and is a frequent contributor to a range of public media. His extensive research focuses on improving the quality of health care while reducing costs, particularly through the impact of public health policy both nationally and globally. Jha has a long affiliation with Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he was faculty from 2004 and served as Dean of Global Strategy from 2018 to 2020. He previously practiced at the West Roxbury VA and currently continues his practice at the Providence VA Medical Center. He holds a B.A. in economics from Columbia University, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, and a Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Jha was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2013.
