Biography

Ashish Sharma is the Climate Urban Sustainability Lead at the Discovery Partners Institute, University of Illinois System, and a graduate faculty member in the Department of Climate, Meteorology & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He also holds a joint appointment as an Atmospheric Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. He completed his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering at Arizona State University and specializes in atmospheric sciences with a focus on regional climate, air quality, and adaptation mitigation strategies. His research encompasses collaborative efforts in science, engineering, social sciences, and policy, particularly in environmental justice concerning heat, fog, and high-impact weather. Dr. Sharma has secured over $40 million in funding from various institutions, including the DOE, NSF, and NASA. He is a fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society and currently serves on the advisory committee for the Trust for Public Land's Natural Solutions Tool. He has co-authored significant climate change impact assessments and has been actively involved in reviewing for the IPCC and various scientific journals. Dr. Sharma is an Associate Editor for the Frontiers in Environmental Science: Atmosphere and has testified on urban heat island effects before the City of Chicago.
