Biography

Ashley Behrens, M.D., is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Chief of the Division of Comprehensive Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Dr. Behrens specializes in the medical and surgical management of cataracts and corneal diseases, including corneal transplantation techniques for conditions such as Fuchs’ dystrophy and keratoconus. He is an expert in refractive surgery, including LASIK and PRK, and has significant experience in refractive lens exchange. Dr. Behrens received his medical degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas and completed his ophthalmology residency at Hospital Miguel Perez Carreno. He furthered his training with fellowships at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany and the University of Southern California. Dr. Behrens joined the Wilmer faculty in 2003 and previously served as the Executive Medical Director at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital in Saudi Arabia. He is a recognized leader in his field and actively participates in various professional memberships, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Society of Refractive Surgery, contributing to advancements in eye care.
