Ashley Rogers Berner is an Associate Professor and the Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Education Policy. With a focus on pluralism in education, she has authored the book 'Pluralism in American Public Education: A Way Forward for Schools' released by Palgrave MacMillan in 2017 and is set to publish another book, 'Educational Pluralism and American Democracy: How to Handle Indoctrination, Promote Exposure, and Rebuild America’s Schools' in April 2024 with Harvard Education Press. Her work spans dozens of journal articles, book chapters, and op-eds, and she is known for her widely viewed TEDx talk on citizenship formation and academic outcomes. Berner is also involved in designing the Institute’s School Culture 360™ and ELA Social Studies Knowledge Maps™. She regularly represents the Institute and consults for various agencies and organizations at international, federal, and state levels, as well as school systems. Berner holds degrees from Davidson College (Honors A.B.) and Oxford University (M.Litt., D.Phil. in Modern History).
