Ashley Buckle completed his PhD in 1994 at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Prof Sir Alan Fersht, focusing on the structure determination of protein-DNA and protein-protein complexes. He then worked as a postdoc staff scientist at the MRC Centre in Cambridge, where he made significant contributions to understanding protein stability and molecular recognition by molecular chaperones. He is currently the VP of Protein Engineering and Structural Biology at Replay Holdings LLC in San Diego, where he has played a pivotal role in establishing a platform for hypoimmunogenic iPSC-derived cell sources for regenerative medicine and cell therapy, contributing to a $55M seed round in 2022. He has published over 160 papers and holds more than 11 patents in various innovative areas including protein engineering, molecular dynamics, and directed evolution.
