Ashley Jameson Eriksmoen was born and raised in Southern California. She completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, followed by years of practice as an engineering geologist. After moving rocks and timber, she studied fine woodworking at the College of the Redwoods before earning her M.F.A. in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2006, she received the Norwegian Marshall Fund Grant for research on traditional woodworking methods in Norway. Eriksmoen has taught design and woodworking at several institutions, including California College of the Arts and Penland School of Craft. From 2002 to 2011, she designed and built sculptural furniture in her studio in Oakland, California. In 2012, she moved to Canberra, Australia, where she is the Head of Furniture at the Australian National University School of Art & Design. She continues to teach, pursue practice-led research, and exhibit internationally. Her educational qualifications include a Masters of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design, a Certificate in Fine Woodworking from the College of the Redwoods, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Boston College.
