Ashley Hannay joined the University of Manchester in September 2021, previously lecturing at the University of Cambridge and Queen Mary, University of London. Hannay obtained a BA (Hons) in History from the University of Lancaster and subsequently studied Law at the University of Edinburgh and Magdalene College, Cambridge. As a private lawyer, his research interests span legal history, equity, trusts, and land law, with a primary focus on the doctrinal development of English property law from the mid-sixteenth century, as well as the historical development of trusts in the legal history of the County Palatine of Lancaster. At Manchester, Hannay serves as the Programme Director for the LLB Law Joint Honours Programme and is the Co-Director of the Centre for Law and Business. In addition to teaching, he is actively involved in research supervision for PhD students in related fields.
