Biography

Ashley Rose Mehlenbacher is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in the field of Science, Health, and Technology Communication at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her PhD from North Carolina State University under the supervision of Carolyn R. Miller, and has a strong academic background with an MA and BA from the University of Waterloo. Beginning her faculty career at Purdue University, she joined the University of Waterloo in 2015. Her work examines the communication of complex scientific knowledge to public audiences, and the ethical implications of these communications. She is the author of several influential works, such as 'Expertise: Cultivating Character, Goodwill, Practical Wisdom' and 'Science Communication Online: Engaging Experts and Publics on the Internet.' Mehlenbacher has held significant roles in academic associations, including serving as the President of the Association for Rhetoric Science, Technology, Medicine, and as Co-Director of the Trust Research Undertaken in Science Technology (TRuST) network.
