Dr. Ashok Handa

Biography

Ashok Handa is a Professor of Vascular Surgery and serves as the Director of Teaching in Surgery at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. He is also an Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Co-Director of Graduate Studies at his department. With a focus on strategic planning and delivery of the surgical teaching curriculum, he oversees the training provided to medical students across various years. Among his key responsibilities, he collaborates with colleagues in developing curricula for both undergraduate and graduate entry courses. Professor Handa is actively involved in research related to patient safety and surgical outcomes, and has made significant contributions as the founding Principal Investigator for the OxAAA study and as Co-Principal Investigator of the Oxford Global Surgery Research Group. He has established multiple research collaborations centered on cardiovascular imaging and biomedical engineering, underscoring his commitment to advancing surgical science. His professional memberships include the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and the British Transplantation Society, among others.
