Biography

Dr. Ashok K. Shetty earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India, and completed postdoctoral research at Duke University. He joined Duke University's Division of Neurosurgery in 1995 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1999, later becoming a full Professor in 2004. In July 2011, he joined Texas A&M University College of Medicine as a Professor and Director of Neurosciences at the Institute for Regenerative Medicine, and he took on the role of Associate Director in 2016. Over his 28-year career, Dr. Shetty has received extramural research funding as the Principal Investigator from various sources, including the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. He has authored 214 peer-reviewed publications and has an h-index of 73. His research focuses on developing innovative therapies for conditions such as Alzheimer's Disease and Traumatic Brain Injury, utilizing human neural stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles. Dr. Shetty has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Texas A&M University Distinguished Professor Award in 2024 and being named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He serves on editorial boards for several prestigious journals and has participated in numerous NIH study section panels.
