Professor Dr. Ashootosh Tripathi

Biography

Ashootosh Tripathi is a Director at the UM-Natural Products Discovery Core and an Associate Research Scientist at the Life Sciences Institute. He is also a Research Associate Professor in Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy. His research focuses on addressing significant health threats caused by the lack of plausible antibiotic and anticancer candidates in the clinical pipeline. Utilizing a multipronged strategy, he aims to discover and characterize novel drug leads from microbial cultures by employing sophisticated mainstream techniques to harness the complete biosynthetic potential of cryptic, minimally expressed secondary metabolite gene clusters. Furthermore, he emphasizes unique target-based approaches to identify potent inhibitors for anticancer, antiviral, antidiabetic, and antibiotic properties, thereby complementing his primary strategy and comprehensively exploiting the secondary metabolite capabilities of microbes to obtain new druggable molecular entities.
