Biography

Ashot Minasyan is a Pure Mathematician specializing in Group Theory, particularly within Geometric Combinatorial Group Theory. He obtained his MSc degree in Pure Applied Mathematics from Moscow State Lomonosov University in 2000 and completed his PhD studies at Vanderbilt University under the supervision of Olshanskii in 2005. Afterward, he held a post-doctoral position at the University of Geneva for three years until 2008, before joining the University of Southampton as a lecturer. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. His research interests include Word Hyperbolic Groups, Relatively Hyperbolic Groups, Acylindrically Hyperbolic Groups, and Small Cancellation Theory, with a focus on the interaction of these areas in Profinite Topology. Throughout his career, he has also been involved in teaching a variety of undergraduate courses, including Linear Algebra for first-year students and more advanced subjects like Hyperbolic Geometry and Complex Function Theory for fourth-year students. He has received several awards for his contributions to mathematics, including the Emil Artin Junior Prize in 2007 and the Bjarni Jónsson Prize in 2005.
