Biography

Ashraf Ayoub graduated BDS from the University of Cairo in 1982 and completed his residency in Oral Surgery at Cairo University, earning his MDS thereafter. He moved to the University of Glasgow, where he earned his PhD in 1993. Appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1998, he became a Professor in 2003. He leads the Scottish Craniofacial Research Group and serves as Editor-in-Chief for the journal Frontiers in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. His multidisciplinary team, which includes orthodontists and computer scientists, investigates facial malformations and has received significant grant funding for extensive research projects. Professor Ayoub is known for his contributions to bone bioengineering used in maxillofacial reconstruction. He has published over 170 peer-reviewed articles and has been recognized with multiple awards for his teaching and research supervision. His research interests include three-dimensional facial modeling, bone biology, and craniofacial reconstruction. He has coordinated key conferences and has been pivotal in raising substantial research funding throughout his career. Dr. Ayoub is also recognized for his innovative approaches in dental and maxillofacial surgery, especially in the use of advanced imaging techniques.
