Bagchi received his Ph.D. degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, his M.S. degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras, and his B.Eng. degree in Civil Engineering from Jadavpur University in Calcutta, India.
