Biography

Ashwin Rao is a board-certified family medicine physician with a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine. He completed his undergraduate studies at Swarthmore College and earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. After completing his residency in family medicine, he pursued a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Washington. Currently, Dr. Rao serves as a professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington and is the program director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship. He provides care to patients at the UW Sports Medicine Clinic located in Husky Stadium and the UWNC Northgate Clinic. Additionally, he is the team physician for the University of Washington Husky Athletics and the Seattle Seahawks. Dr. Rao is involved in various professional organizations, including the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has received recognition as a 'Top Doctor' by Seattle Met magazine and has been honored with the UW Cares Award and the PRAISE award for patient satisfaction. His academic interests focus on primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death in athletes, mental health in athletes, and education and mentorship of medical students and residents. Clinically, he specializes in ultrasound-guided procedures, platelet-rich plasma treatments, and comprehensive wellness care for recreational and professional athletes.
